Most residential burglaries are carried out during the day with the burglar simply kicking in the front or rear doors. A common misconception is when a door is kicked in, the lock, door or door frame is broken. In reality, the strike plate and wood around the strike plate give when the door is forced.

To better secure your residence, replace factory door screws with 3-inch screws. Factory door screws near the strike plate are generally ½ inch. This only secures the strike plate to the door frame Fatsia. This is a very shallow and weak wood.

By replacing the factory screws with 3-inch screws, the screws are driven into the door frame and house frame. In effect, a person would be pushing against the integrity of the whole house, not just a ¼ inch piece of wood.
