Bureau of Inspectional Services

Within the University Park Fire Department, is the Bureau of Inspectional Services. Formed in 1995, this Division is responsible for the duties formerly assigned to the Code Enforcement Department.

Each year, the Bureau of Inspectional Services, performs annual inspections on all Multi-family and Rental Occupancies within the Village to ensure compliance with the BOCA Property Maintenance Code (1999 Ed.).

Additionally, Village Ordinance requires that prior to selling a property, an inspection must be performed. Persons selling property must submit a Point of Sale Application (click here) along with pay the associated fee a minimum of 10 days prior to closing of the sale. Once the application and fee has been received, an inspection is scheduled and performed. (see inspection form) If there are no violations of adopted codes and ordinances, a Certificate of Occupancy and Certification of Point of Sale will be issued which allow for the purchasing of the required Real Estate Transfer Tax Stamps. If violations are present, the seller has the opportunity to correct any deficiencies or, if the violations are non-life threatening, establish an escrow account in an amount equal to 150% of the estimated cost of repairs.

The Bureau of Inspectional Services is also responsible for addressing complaints associated with potential violations of adopted codes and ordinances including painting, grass cutting, etc.
