University Park Fire Dept. Bureau of Fire Prevention

As the old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. With this in mind, it is the goal of the University Park Fire Department Bureau of Fire Prevention to help educate the public in order to prevent fires before they occur.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention accomplishes its goal by inspecting all commercial, industrial, assembly and multi-family occupancies on a semi-annual basis to ensure compliance with the Fire Prevention Code.

In addition, the Bureau is responsible for the education of numerous school, church and civic groups on the importance of fire safety. While the local schools are targeted specifically during the first week of October (Fire Prevention Week), fire safety is a continual activity.

In conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department we offer a two week program as part of summer camp. During this “Future Firefighter Academy” participants learn fire safety along with basic first aid.
