The
Village of University Park has
established various committees
and commissions in order to assist
and advise the Board of Trustees
with various aspects within the
Community. Their main functions
are:
- Gathering
and analyzing information
- Consider
resident suggestions and complaints
- Formulating
plans aimed at fulfillment
of Village government
- Maintaining
a liaison with the staff,
government body and residents
- Facilitating
public information
Appointments
to the various committees/commissions
vary based on the committee itself.
The Mayor of the Board of Trustees
makes these appointments with
the concurrence of the Board of
Trustees. The term of the committee/commission
member is usually three (3) years
unless otherwise specified in
the ordinance governing that particular
body. Listed below are the various
committees/commissions that operate
with the Village:

Board
of Police and Fire Commissioners:
This board of commissioners conducts
and establishes the qualifications
for Police and Fire candidates
for the Village of University
Park. They test and review applications
and review any disciplinary actions
that must be taken for those two
departments.
This commission meets on the first
Thursday of each month at 7:30
P.M. at Village Hall.
Cable
Communication Advisory Commission
This committee meets on the third
Thursday of each month at 7:30
P.M. at the Cable Studio.
Code
Enforcement Commission
This commission meets on the second
Thursday of each month at 7:30
P.M. at the Village Hall.
Community
Development Commission
This commission meets on the third
Tuesday of each month at 7:30
P.M. at the Village Hall.
Community
Recognition Advisory Committee
The committee has served as an
advisor to the Board of Trustees
in identifying residential or
business individuals who represent
the Village of University Park
both in their regular and extra
curricular activities. This committee
has been responsible for the following
annual events:
1. Unity Day
2. Tree Lighting Ceremony
3. Holiday Decoration Contest
4. Annual House Beautification
Awards
This committee meets on the second
Monday of each month at 7:30 P.M.
at the Village Hall.
Education
Advisory Committee
This committee shall review and
study all matters concerning education
affecting the residents of the
Village of University Park. This
committee is also the source for
the Scholarships to Village High
School graduates who plan on going
on to further their educational
needs.
The Scholarship committee has
an annual dance and golf outing
to seek donations to help fund
the annual scholarships.
This committee meets on the first
Wednesday of each month at 7:30
P.M. at the Village Hall.
Finance
Committee
This committee is responsible
for the following:
- Assisting
the Village Manager in the developing
various financial reports such
as budgets, cash flows, and
system evaluations.
- Making
recommendations to the Village
Manager or to the Board of Trustees
concerning long range financial
plans.
- Reviewing
and recommending fiscal legislation
of issue budgets, tax levies,
audit, etc.
This
committee meets on the fourth
Monday of each month at 7:00 P.M.
at the Village Hall.
Information
Technology Commission
This commission meets on the First
Thursday of each month at 7:00
P.M. at the Village Hall.
Parks
and Recreation Advisory Committee
This committee is responsible
for recommending new recreational
programs, creative leisure time
activities, identifying present
and future recreational needs,
and is a forum for youth related
issues.
This committee meets on the first
Thursday of each month at 7:00
P.M. at the Riegel Farm.
Planning
Commission
This commission meets on the second
Wednesday of each month at 7:30
P.M. at the Village Hall.
Public
Safety Committee
This committee shall be responsible
for the following:
1. Monitoring a system review
and answering citizen complaints.
2. Developing a plan to attract
volunteers to the Fire and Police
Departments.
3. Developing of public education
programs.
4. Recommending community development
programs.
5. Monitoring social service delivery
in the community.
This committee meets on the first
Monday of each month at 7:00 P.M.
in the Police Station Conference
Room.
Public
Services and Utilities Committee
This committee is responsible
for the following:
- Developing
a 5 year plan for Village street
repairs and lighting.
- Recommending
projects eligible for Motor
Fuel Tax Funds.
- Developing
a 5 year plan for maintenance
of sidewalks, parks, public
buildings, street cleaning,
storm sewers, bike paths, tree
trimming, etc.
- Working
with utility companies to provide
the best services possible to
Village residents.
This
committee meets on the second
Wednesday of each month at 8:00
P.M. at the Village Hall.
Senior
Citizen Committee
This committee is responsible
for advising the Board of Trustees
on issues but not limited to senior
citizen problems, providing information
on services for senior citizens.
This committee meets on the second
Wednesday of each month at 2:00
P.M. at the University Park Public
Library.
Special
Events/Human Services Committee
This committee meets on the fourth
Saturday of each month at 9:30
A.M. at the Police Station conference
room.
